About

Each year we host our Champions for Children event to raise funds for A Family Place Relief Nursery. This year it could not have come at a more opportune moment. Day-to-day stresses have increased exponentially for all of us, but for hundreds of our community’s families already struggling to provide their family’s basic needs, the added burden of unemployment, sequenced by food insecurity, unstable housing, isolation, and limited access to healthcare has swiftly become overwhelming.

Thanks to our community’s long-standing support, from the first “stay at home order,”  our A Family Place staff and volunteers were poised to intervene responsively.  Thanks to our community’s enduring support, we’ve remained on the front lines of this crisis, providing critical support during this, especially challenging time.

Our October 8th Champions for Children Virtual Gala will feature exciting progress updates & heartwarming success stories. There’s no cost to attend, but please remember, the future success of A Family Place depends upon community contributions including those of event sponsors and attendees.

What is a viewing party host?

A viewing party host is a key volunteer who invites friends, family or “pod” members to gather in small groups to learn about protecting Yamhill County’s most vulnerable children. These gatherings can be online via zoom or in your home if you are comfortable hosting.

The Champions for Children program is designed to inspire. While it’s free to attend, it is our hope that every guest will want to give our community’s most vulnerable children the support and stability they deserve during this time of increased need.

Tips for Being a Successful Host

Invitations

  • Decide how you would like to gather. Options are as a small group in your home with family and pod members, or online with a broader group of family, friends, colleagues and community members.
  • Decide how you prefer to contact your guests: in person, by phone, or by email.
  • As previously stated, there is no cost to attend this virtual gala so, please, share this link with your friends and family–whether they’re living just around the corner or joining virtually from Timbuktu.
  • See FAQ’s for more detailed information.

Communicate Expectations

Champions for Children is AFP’s marquee fundraiser and “friendraiser” of the year. The funds generated at our event support are critical to sustaining essential child abuse and neglect prevention programs in our community. Every dollar makes a difference, and each gift is gratefully received. We recommend that viewing party hosts let their guests know ahead of time about the financial request. To help your guests decide on the level of their gift, you may choose to share the level of your own gift.

 Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to invite guests to view the event with me?

A phone call is usually the easiest and best way to invite your guests.

Tell your potential guest how important child abuse and neglect prevention is to you – make it personal!  If you are passionate about protecting our at-risk children your friends will be too! Let them know they will learn more about A Family Place and will be given an opportunity to support our work.

When they say yes, follow up immediately by sending them an invitation.

What if a guest cannot attend the virtual gala but would like to make a donation to A Family Place (AFP)?

  • Thank your invitees for their support and direct them to our online donation page.
  • If your invitees  prefer to mail a donation, simply suggest that they:
  1. Make the check payable to “A Family Place.”
  2. Write “AFP Champions Virtual Gala” in the check memo.
  3. Mail it to 435 NE Evans Street, Suite A, McMinnville Or, 97128.

How will choose who comes to my viewing party?

If you are hosting at home, consider asking people who you feel comfortable having in your home environment. Some people have “pods” set up, or friends or family. If you are viewing online consider family, friends, colleagues or community members who have a heart for children.

Ask guests if they would like to invite others to join you…or, better yet, maximize your impact by asking if they would like to host a viewing party of their own.

How will we view the event in my home?

The event can be viewed on your computer, laptop, iPad, or even smart TVs! Your individual viewing style is up to you.

Giving during the event, and bidding on items work best if each guest also logs in on their mobile phone or iPad to participate at their own level.

What will my guest be asked to give?

Now, more than ever, countless young lives and the success of our future community depend upon us all doing our part.

For this reason, we are counting on you to help us expand the reach of this event. To make it as easy and flexible as possible, we offer the option to automatically donate each month by debit or credit card. For example, a gift of $250 would only cost $21 a month – much less than most of us spend on coffee.

Also, please remind your guests to take advantage of their company’s matching gift program (if available). It’s a great way to maximize their impact!

Who do I talk to if my business would like to donate to the event?

When is the registration deadline?

Please complete your registration HERE, preferably by Wednesday, October 5, 2022 so that we can send you all of the detailed information needed to fully enjoy the gala.  Though guests can register up until the event start time, we hope to have folks sign up earlier so there are no delays in bidding and giving.

Thank you for your willingness to serve as a viewing party host at the Champions for Children Virtual Gala. We cannot support this vital community program without all of you!

Please contact our events coordinator Emily Garrick-Steenson at egsteenson@lcsnw.org or 503.936.2922 with any questions or concerns.
